Through the QR-code printed on the bottle label consumers can access to information about the wine.
In 2019, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region presented in a meeting held at Vinitaly (international wine fair Verona) a pilot project on the digital traceability of wine. ENOLOGY is the name of the initiative born from the collaboration of the regional administration with Agea and the National Agricultural Information System (Sian).
In 2018, six local companies activated the experimental traceability procedure on their wines. Through the QR-code printed on the bottle label consumers can access to information about the wine. All these info belong to a so-called public blockchain, where the supply chain data is available, immutable and certified. Enology could later also embrace data provided directly by companies and thus become a promotional tool as well as a guarantee of product quality. Companies could in fact insert qualitative information on wines such as production processes used, chemical analysis, reviews of specialized magazines, interviews, videos and photos, but also associate the product with their e-commerce portals, greatly increasing the benefits of the app.
The Enology solution could be easily replicated in other agricultural sectors, with particular reference to those relating to quality agricultural production, such as extra virgin olive oil, cheeses, beef, organic production…
