Meeting STI Roadmaps for SDGs

The online meeting STI Roadmaps for SDGs –paving the pathways for sustainable recovery and future resilience, organised by the Join Research Center JRC) of the European Commission, was held the 30th. of June. This virtual event brought together speakers from the EU and UN and the UN Member States and was addressed to the countries and organisations interested in applying science, technology and innovation in order to achieve SDGs, respond to the development challenges and contribute to the post-crises recovery and resilience in a sustainable and knowledge-based manner.

 

After the opening remarks made by Alessandro Rainoldi, Head of Territorial Development Unit in the JRC, the first Session dedicated to the EU Experience and world wide application on Place-based STI Roadmaps for SDGs started. It was followed by a virtual poster session presented by Katerina Ciampi Stancova, from the Smart Specialisation and Sustainable Development Goals Team, in the JRC. These posters were prepared for the event that was supposed to take place in March and had to be cancel leddue to the COVID outbreak. The S3 TBD Partnership was present in this session with a poster on its contribution to the Global Agenda.

 

Finally, in Session 3 a panel discussion on Localised STI Roadmaps for sustainability was presented. The session was moderated by Karolina Horbaczewska (from the Smart Specialisation and Sustainable Development Goals Team, JRC), and included the following speakers: Beata Lubos, Deputy Director, Innovation Department, Ministry of Economic Development of Poland; Nina Therese Maubach, Special Adviser, GlobalDevelopment, Research Council of Norway; Bruce Wilson, Director, EU Centre of Excellence, RMIT University, Social and Global Studies Centre, Australia; LucHulsman, Programme Manager, Northern Netherlands Alliance; Ville Taajamaa, SDGs Manager, City of Espoo; and Cecilia Gañán de Molina, Expert and external advisor of the International Agri-Food Partnership on Traceability and Big Data, who presented our contributions to the achievement of the SDGs, highlighting the societal challenges addressed by four of our projects: Regions4Food, SmartAgrihubs, Complat and ICT-Biochain.

 

Manuel Palazuelos Martinez, Team Leader ofthe Smart Specialisation Platform, in JRC, made the closing remarks.
